There aren't too many really great casino-based films out there, and with the exception of Croupier in recent years films of this type seem to be pretty thin on the ground![]()
My favourite film is probably either Croupier or Casino (with Robert De Niro) Clive Owen is excellent in Croupier though, if you haven't seen it, it's seriously a great film, nicely understated and very cool. Also, a pretty old 1970s film called 'The Gambler' is terrific, James Caan in his best role ever!
But how realistic are these films? A pesimist would probably say that 'The Gambler' is the most realistic of them all, but I wonder how many films truly capture the mood of the casinos. I suppose gambling in the UK is very different to gambling in the US. Casinos in the states are probably way more glitzy... seems that way on screen, anyway.
Rounders is probably one of my favourites. Although its more of a poker film than a casino film (there are some casino scenes).
Intacto (I think this was two years ago) was also an extremely original film about the concepts of luck / gambling.
I've also seen Intacto - thought it was pretty good.
Another good film is Swingers - though not really a 'casino' film - there is a great part of the film where they go to Vegas. Download it off Kazaa / Emule if you get the chance!
yeah i saw that too..very good film :D
I like Ocean's Eleven, although it's not exactly a "casino" movie. I've watched both versions, and each has it's own merits.
Casino is one of my all time favourite movies.
A mafia flick + casinos = winner! Cant beat DeNiro and Pesci![]()
Exactly, for me it's the cast on Casino that makes the film so good. Mobsters and casinos are such an illustruous combination, and with De Niro and Pesci you have the perfect cast for it.
Looking at the thread starter's name ... why hasn't Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas been mentioned? Although I definately prefer the book over the movie, it's an excellent addition to my DVD collection.
I like Ocean's Eleven.
It's a pretty neat movie and I definitely like all the neat tricks that they played in it.
Don't you agree?
Let me know what you think.
