UFC 118 Predictions and thoughts

So whose watching and who you backing, this card is an interesting one for me and i have some thoughts

Main Event

Penn v Edgar - this is so close to call, as i always think that Dana seems to find someone to stop Penn and when it comes to it he pulls something magical out of the bag.

Penn by Submission

Couture v Toney - this fight is a joke for me, and Toney has a punchers chance and thats it. Once couture gets it on teh ground it will be over very quickly.

Couture by Ground and Pound

Maia v Miranda - think this fight will be decided on how long Miranda can keep it on their feet, if he can do this i think Maia will be KO'd and KO'd easily

Miranda by KO

Florian v Maynard - for me this will be the fight of the night, Maynard is undefeated and won his division on TUF, completely outclassing everyone in his division, Florian is just as good tho.
Definatly the toughest to call but im gonna go for..........

Maynard by Submission. which is ghey as Florian is one of my fav fighters

Diaz v Davis - No contest for me, Diaz is just too good, i expect this to hit the ground quickly and Davis to tap like a bitch

Lauzon v Ruediger - Lauzon is awesome imo and Ruediger was the fat prick that was on TUF for exposure and never ended up fighting as he pussied out making weight, this was the season with Diaz, Maynard, Manny, Lauzon iirc and he knew straight away he wasnt good enough. Dana did say he'd never fight in the UFC so dont know why he is on this card. Hope Lauzon breaks his face

Winner v Lentz - How can i not support the Brit in this one, Lentz has to avoid getting TKFO by Winner but has a good ground game

Miller v Salter - Dan Miller, in his last fight looked average for me, but feel this is a fight that has been picked by Dana to get him back on the right path, Miller is just too good to lose to a bum like Salter imo

Osipczak v Soto - Soto has NO ground game and Osipczak is British so my loyalites lie with him, but he hasnt impressed me yet, however his chim is pretty good

I put £10 on Toney beating Couture for a £45 return. Possible IMO.

He does have a punchers chance. Is he really 7/2? Thats fairly wide in a 2 horse race, especially v an over-the-hill Couture

Wins can come by decision, TKO, KO or submission. You have Couture winning by ground and pound above, we'll assume this is TKO for sake of the wager (if you agree).

My Predictions UFC 118

Penn v Edgar
Although Penn lost the first fight I still think he's one of the best players in the world. It was a five round war last time but I think Penn is going to come more than prepared this time.
Penn via TKO

Couture v Toney
I'm actually excited by this fighter, Toney is/was a great boxer so if he has trained on his take down defence then I think he has a decent chance. With that said, Couture is far too experienced to stand in front of him so I doubt Toney will be able to find Couture the whole fight. I think Couture will take him down and finish the fight.

Maia v Miranda
Miranda hasn't fought the same level of opponent as Mia and I think Mias wealth of experience will be too much, I mean he went 5 rounds with Anderson Silva. I think Mia will win this one and fairly comfortably.

Florian v Maynard
Although Gray is undefeated he doesn't know how to finish fights, 6 of his 7 wins in the UFC have gone to a decision. On the other hand Florian does know how to finish fights, of his 11 wins in the UFC only 1 of them has gone to a decision which is a frightening statistic. I can't see anyway Gray is coming out of these 3 rounds with the class of fighter Florian has beat, Gomi, Stevenson and Guida.

Diaz v Davis
This is a very tough one to call because Davis is a knockout artist and Diaz just doesn't get knocked out. In saying that I think Davis will dominate and take Diaz the distance.

Lauzon v Ruediger
This is Gabes first fight in the UFC so I haven't seen much of him. Joe is a great fighter with a fantastic record and does a great job of avoiding submissions of which Rued is a specialist. This is a real tough one to call and although Rued was a let down on tuf, he has refocused and put together some solid fights (albeit against mediocre opposition). With that said I'm going to go with Joe.

Winner v Lentz
As Dann mentioned above you can't not go for the Brit here. Both solid guys with a wealth of experience albeit against a lower level opposition.

Miller v Salter
I know very little about these fighters however I have seen 2 of Millers last 3 fights and thought he was poor, hes actually on a 3 fight losing run. I'm going to go with Salter here.

Osipczak v Soto
Again not much to say on these two fighters, i'd like to see Osipczak win however I'm leaning towards a dominant Soto, I think he'll lay and pray for the 3 rounds and most likely fight a submission.
