    Default The Plague!

I dunno what it is with this house and things like this but a few years ago I had a wasps nest in the roof above the bathroom (I woke up one night with a wasp crawling on my top lip!! ) and then last year some of you may remember I had that ant infestation http://gamblingnetwork.com/forums/ge...ster-real.html .
Anyway the latest plague is as follows......I went out through the garage to take the bin out and theres a big bucket there (to catch rainwater from the leaky roof!) and on the top of it was a floating dead mouse!! Urggghhhh! Not sure how it would have got in there really....

So I now have the project of getting rid of them, I have searched around as much as I can for any other mice but can't see anyting and bought a couple of mouse traps earlier and have loaded them up with the awesome bait of mini babybell cheese and chocolate popcorn:

What do we think is gonna happen?

Which bait will kill the mouse? Or will there be no kills??! When do you think they will occur?!

    Options:

    Both kills
    Cheese Kill, choc trap empty
    Choc kill, cheese trap empty
    No kills

    Vbookie event?!?!? lol

Factors you may wish to consider:

The "floater" was the first sign of a mouse and there is a gap at the bottom of the garage door large enough for it to have only just came in.
The only other evidence of rodents is that a bin bag at the other end of the garage had been chewed (I noticed this after I found the dead one).
The cheese trap is placed where the chewed bin bag was by the door from the kitchen, the choc-popcorn trap is near the main garage door by where I found the dead one.
Suggested bait on the mouse trap packet was chocolate, tuna or peanut butter.
The traps were placed at 19:30 this evening.

Also, I need a name for this thing, so far I'm in favour of "Operation Mouse-Kill" but other possibilities are: Moussion Impossible, Mouse-terminator, Die Mickey Die, Mouse Assassin, Mouse Invaders, Citrus and the three mouse-kateers......

My head says no kills, but my heart says popcorn. I don't think mice really like cheese in reality and if it were me I'd go for the popcorn.

Also we didn't need the uber-close-up of the dead one.

Quality post. Though, personally I'd have gone for a humane mousetrap and released the mouse in a field somewhere.

However, someone I know bought a humane mousetrap and forgot to check it. When he finally remembered he found a rotten mouse in the trap. Poor thing had starved to death. Not a nice way to go.

Definitely the sweet, sugary popcorn if you do get any more.

I used to find a malteser worked well.

A good tip is to wear gloves when you bait and set the trap, so there is no fresh human smell about it!

My g/f was on at me to get a humane one, I briefly considered it till I saw that most of them were double the price. Also I wouldn't be able to call it "Operation Mouse-Kill"!!!

Ah, cheers for the tips, I hadn't thought of that. I will change the bait if there is no takers tonight and wear gloves. I bought some gloves to use but didn't put them on before, they were going to be the corpse handling gloves

    No probs.
Yeah, corpse handling is an issue too; also the post about the unchecked trapped starved mouse reminds me of when I set a trap in the compost bin.
Fotunately I checked it regularly, as in a fairly short order I found a half trapped, squashed, maimed and bleeding, STILL ALIVE mouse looking at me pitifully.
So I had to to get it out of the trap by hand and then hit it with a spade.
    Not nice.

Disappointing. I'm gonna change the bait tonight. I didn't think mice lived alone?! There must be more?!
