Firstly thanks to homerecher for a very good first post! You do not need a car for vegas unless you plan on some serious day trips. You can walk round the strip or get cabs. The strip is approx 4 miles long and with stupid crossings that take ages to cross on every block you are looking at a two hour walk, in summer I don't recommend doing this.
I recently went to vegas for another week.
I stayed at two hotels, the Palms and the Golden nugget.
Both hotels did not fail to impress and if you wish to stay downtown and don't mind paying more than $20 a night then the golden nugget is actually really good. The rooms are recently renovated and big. The casino is always VERY busy.
The Palms is just off the strip and I was not expecting it to be too good. I managed to get a junior suite for $110 a night or so and the room was mah00sive. About 50 hot women per square metre on the casino floor because I think there are a couple of popular clubs here.
I obviously recommend both of those rooms.
I got to know a bit about downtown as I stayed at the nugget. If you are on a budget and need to get tanked up on a few drinks somewhere cheaply then mermaids is hillarious. It's pretty grimy and smells a little but you can just sit down at the machines, play 5c a bet and get HAMMERED. You should be able to get wasted on about $5. They also do deep fried oreos which I strangely got a bit addicted to as they are the nicest thing on this planet. The service in there for drinks is the best in Vegas by far as I always found that if I didn't have two drinks in front of me a waitress would be brining over a new vodka and coke.
Glitter gulch is a strip club in downtown but it is overpriced and the women aren't that hot either so stick to downtwon.
I visited the city center and managed to find an English bar. Very good bar with great atmosphere but I am not too happy about paying $10 for a pint of beer. They had egg glasses at the bar which you turn upside when given a fresh pint. If you can neck the pint before the time runs out you get it for free (you need to do it in 9 seconds).
I can't remember if I said it in OP but everyone must go on the NYNY rollercoaster. It isn't too scary but it is just scary enough to give you a great buzz. The first two drops are hillarious.
Thanks guys,
True the Heart Attack I think is the name of the NYNY coaster, isn't bad. A bit expensive for a minute ride, but it should be done once, that goes with the coasters on top of The Stratosphere too. Always fun over there.
Downtown is great! I forgot about the 'Downtown Experience' pretty much a video/light show every night every 30 min or an hour. It's def cool and something to be seen. I think the Nugget is the nicest poker room/casino downtown. They just changed the poker room to look very stylish (prolly thanks to High Stakes Poker.) Binion's is a classic and you can still get a picture taken with 1 million USD behind ya which is nice. Plus Binion's still has slot machines and video poker machines that use coins. To keep with that old school feel.
I visited Las Vegas for the 1st time last Sept 2009, WOW What a place! I knew i would enjoy it but it surpassed all my expectations so much! We ended up going back again for Christmas and New Year (Me and the g/f) and i proposed to my now Fiancee'. We have been going out for years and spoke of marriage so it wasnt a rush Vegas style jump in! lol. Anyway we're getting married at the Wynn next Sept 2011 as we both fell in love with the place bigtime! We visited the Grand Canyon, i played poker, we done some shows, i played MORE poker, played a round of golf then even MORE poker! We're gonna maybe try and get back again before the wedding although we need to save bigtime as its not going to be cheap! Anyone thinking of going to Vegas dont have any fears the place in my opinion is quite simply the greatest place on Earth!
I just saw Las Vegas get destroyed on da telly!!!!!!
OH NO!!!!
