Default How to deal with those 'All-in' players?

You know the scene where you're sitting at a table and there's one player who goes 'all-in' preflop with every single hand they receive.

I tend to try and ignore them and let the other players call, but you know they can't have hit a hand every time - especially when someone does call them and manage to get their AK beaten by 74o or something ridiculous.

However, when it gets down to the final 3 or 4 players or so at the table, and they are stealing your blinds every time they go all-in, what tactics are best to play and how would this change depending on your stack in relation to others at the table?
Would you play any Ace card? Play any pair? Play any hand that is over 17?

    Cheers

Heh. Could you be referring to the player in last night's tourney sitting to your right, or to me?

He wasn't too bad as he wasn't doing it with every single hand.

I was thinking of a Sit n Go tournament I played yesterday where the chip leader lost half of his stack and then decided to go all in with every hand he was dealt after that. I saw him win 90% of them, mostly with people not calling, other time with KJs or 74o. (crikey - as I type this 3 people just went all in on the first hand - 44, ATo and AQo - the 44 just tripped and won) I finally called from BB with a pair of eights and he beat me with T3o.

It gets to that stage where you're just not playing poker and you end up calling out of frustration. The hand I lost took away my chip lead.

When we eventually knocked him out, normal poker was resumed.

I must confess I haven't ever experienced that sort of play in a SnG myself, but I play mainly on 'Stars and from what I've seen most players on there tend to play pretty much ABC poker, apart from on the PM tables.

I don't think there's much you can do against a maniac whose only move is AI except to do exactly what you did - wait for a hand you can look him up with and try and bust him. Typical that he sucked out on you.

Good job last night by the way. Dammit.

Thank you - if only you had those aces you were representing

Speaking of crazy 'all-ins' - take a look at this...(apologies for the size).

Player on the right went all in preflop with just under 1000 chips. Understandable in a way as he was trying to steal the blinds and had a face card.

    He gets called with 52o??

Folds around to me and I raise with AJo, just to get the rest of the players out of the hand.

I'm not complaining if I get other people's chips, but who in their right mind calls an all-in with 52o?

And you're only at Level 1 too!

That must rank as one of the most godawful plays I've ever seen.

And I'm including all the ones I've made, so that's really saying something...

Generally I try to let others knock these people out but I generally find that playing and suited connectors or pairs has given me I would say a 70% success rate in taking out these players that play like lunitics. I usually encounter this sort of play in $1 multi rebuy's or freeroll's never seen this type of play in others except once I saw a guy do it every hand in a $20 rebuy on Prima till the end of the first hour. The table lost count after about 45 rebuys which the guy when he eventually went out said "Its only money". Expensive to say the least.

    Default allinscan

In freeroll Scans think that 2 5 unsuited is a good hand and will go allin ith it without a second thought, the fact is they have already decided before they have been delt the cards that they will go alllin.

I just wait till i get any pair over 9's or AK,AQ, AJ suited or unsuited and then look them up. I play a lot of free-roll tourneys and I see that play all the time - To be honest I also see it at live card tourneys too - To some players its the only move they have - Fold or move all in!

You can either take your bad beat with a smile in these situations or curse the game but at the end of the day its not the play of a good player.
So when you do look him up you will win most of the time so have confidence in your hand and call. As long as you have them covered in chips you can live to fight another day. If the chip leaders doing it and he beats you well thats just bad luck but its also poker. All in with only 20% of your hand is pretty chancey even with big hands like AA or KK - remember theres 5 cards to come even 7/4 can beat AA if the flop, turn and river favour it. The only time I ever go all in preflop is with AA and its been re-raised behind me or if I have less than 10X the big blind - its a strategy that has served me well and got me onto a few final tables now.

If you dont think to good - dont think too much.

hi there, the best thing to do in that situation is, what for a great hand like ace king suited or a high pair like kings or queens and play right into there bet, a lot of these all in players that bet all in before the flop only do so because they have no game plan or poker skills and at the end of the day there is only so much good luck they can get in poker, but only call them if there is not too many people in the pot
