i would like to bring a measure of calm to the recent rantings of my fellow poker players, LPL was full of good quality players playing for the love of the game, im sure this forum can become a great communicade (place to organise/set up poker games). Hopefully some of us will push it out now and go seek out some APAT / bigger stake games... we still have the venues and structure for the time being , so it shouldn't be so much of a shock in these dark economic times.
On a personal note i never thought much to Mikes playing ability, he always sucked out on the river with stupid calls he should never of made, i hope he does well in Vegas though, poker after dark is calling you Mike, theres so many lucky fu***s on there you will be in your element. Good Luck, hope to see you at a friendly game sometime soon.

I'd like to thank everyone for supporting the league over the past 4 years, for playing in the games, both online and live.

I'm happy to rename and keep this section of the forum open for discussion of other pub leagues and to arrange games between yourselves as Carlco suggests on his post above.

For those living in the SouthWest area if you're looking to arrange or attend home poker games, the Bristol and SouthWest Poker Meetup Group is a good place to check out.

See here: Bristol & South West Poker Group - sponsored by Poker.co.uk (Bristol) - Meetup.com

Stangely there isn't one setup in Manchester or the surrounding areas, though there are 61 players registered on an 'interested' list.

I played a rebranded Redtooth game last night and everything was good - the structure only differs slightly in that the first levels are 15 mins as opposed to 20 but then there are 2 extra levels, so you probably end up benefiting slightly. The equipment is shiny and shiny is good. Everything was very professional - even Neil's TDing. It seems where we will lose out is in the fun regional finals of yestermonth - I think Redtooth have prizeless regional heats into a national final which offers less value than playing in your local casino after you factor in travel and accommodation. Also each pub has its own league, so there will be fewer people travelling between pubs, especially towards the end of the month, which will be a shame as it will cut down on part of the social element. It's also a shame we'll be losing Matt's patronage and the monthly freerolls - they were fun and good value. Thanks for keeping the forum open on here - I'm not sure what I'd do without listening to CarlCo's constant moaning about disgusting suckouts.

Matt, why do you have those silly quotes on everything you post? very odd.
I would like to say thankyou for the patronage of LPL, without sucking up to you too much, your commitment and support has been truly admirable, good luck in vegas (im assuming you are going), bring back a bracelet you deserve atleast that !

Ty Carl Ah, the quotes - that's just my signature. Have had that one for ages though, so maybe it's getting a bit tired and could do with a change?...

I'm not going to Vegas this year unfortunately (unless I win a last minute seat for the main event = pretty unlikely).

One thing that people haven't mentioned is that as the LPL is now dead, Bristol will forever be LPL Regional Champions.

I'd like to congratulate my fellow team members... Tom for captaining, Carl, Trev, Dar, Sam, Dan and Shane.

Only just caught up with this thread. What a shame.

I still remember turning up for the very first LPL game in Bath, only to find it was postponed till the following week! Lol.

I wish you the best of luck Mike. Maybe we'll meet at a game sometime?

Like Dan, I've only just read this post. I'm not too surprised, but it still comes as a huge shock to see the league come to an end.

I'm the only player left (apart from Mike) who played in his first ever LPL league game in The Beehive in September 2005. In those days it was called the Tilt Poker League and I still have some of the original teeshirts. In all those years, I have met many different people and made lots of new friends. Many of you, I will probably never see again, but I'm sure some of you will bump into me again.

The recession is hitting a lot of people and games have been steadily declining in numbers for some time. I remember playing in league games in Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare that regularly had 5 or six tables and several pubs played two games a night (starting at 7pm and 10pm). In fact I won two games in one night at KJ's in W-S-M. Whilst the Bristol league games were almost descimated when it's most popular pub left the league to start its own league, run by one of the regular Bristol players, other areas, such as Gloucester got busier.

Mike, I wish you success in whatever you have planned next. Thanks for giving me such memorable times. I've learnt a lot whilst playing in your leagues. I even managed to tolerate Carls bad-beat wingeing! lol

Yes The Bristol Poker League is still going strong. If you'd prefer to carry on playing with a 5k chip stack, 20 minute blind levels, have a £1000 a month prize pool, and without the need to go to any regional finals or play for 12 or 13 weeks before seeing anything to actually win, then come along and play in one of our games.

We have lots of pubs that offer one or two games a night, 7 days a week. One of the pubs is even going to be offering an Omaha tournament on a friday night soon if you fancy something different that doesnt cost anything to play

And, if you would rather any of the old LPL pubs join the Bristol Poker League rather than the Red Tooth league then send me a message, or get the pubs to contact us via the site. We would love to have them come onboard.
