Default New Points System for LPL - Please Vote

    Hi all

Recent feedback has suggested that we look into changing the LPL Bonus points system. At the moment there are 0.5 bonus points multiplied by the number of runners.

    e.g.
In a field of 40 runners, 1st place would give you your usual 600 points + 20 bonus points = 620 points.

The table below shows the number of points available when there are 0.5 bonus points per runner:

    16 runners > 25 runners > 40 runners

    1st: 608 > 612.5 > 620
    2nd: 408 > 412.5 > 420
    3rd: 308 > 312.5 > 320

I suggest two solutions, either changing the number of bonus points to 5 or 10.

5 bonus points per player will give us the following:

    16 runners > 25 runners > 40 runners

    1st: 680 > 725 > 800
    2nd: 480 > 525 > 600
    3rd: 380 > 425 > 500

10 bonus points per player will give us the following:

    16 runners > 25 runners > 40 runners

    1st: 760 > 850 > 1000
    2nd: 560 > 650 > 800
    3rd: 460 > 550 > 700

another possible solution (although this may complicate things) is to have the bonus points on a sliding scale which could be determined by the number of tables at the start of the game. e.g
    32 runners = 4 tables - bonus points = per player x4
    0-8 - 1 table - bonus points =per player x1
    9-16 -2 tables - bonus points = per player x2

    etc and so on...

A one -way ticket to the mental institution by the looks of it.

    Only kidding

if someone wins with 36 people they would get the:

    1st 600pts + 36 x 4 =144pts total 744pts
    or 23 players 2 tables
    1st 600pts + 23 x 2 = 46pts total 692pts

It does look viable and make sense i am not sure how Jamie our web programmer would work out the code though, it might just be to complicated to work with.

Lol, I know it could be confusing, Its not just the top points you gotta look at its the bottom ones also.

10 per player across the board means there is fook all difference between coming 16th or 8th even up to 4th!!

    I think a bonus of 10 points per player for 1st - 4th

    5 points 5th - 10th and

    2 points for 11th - 16th.

Havent thought it through but I think something like that would be best

that's the same no matter what the bonus system is unless like you say there's some sort of sliding system which IMO is too complicated.

The idea of increasing the bonus system was to make it more fair for people that play in highly attended games. For example on Monday night there were approx 35-40 players at Seven whereas on the Sunday night (I think) someone attended a game that only started with 5 players. The person who won the game at seven only got about 18 more points than the person who won a STT that started with 5.

Basically what I'm trying to say is its not about giving the winner even more points than lets say 16th place, it's about giving more points to people who do well in games that start with more people, therefore the 10 points per person would actually be the fairest.

If all games started with 20-30 people it wouldn't really be an issue but it seems a little unfair that people can travel to the "unpopular" games to gain easier points, especially towards the end of month when they're chasing for something.

I think you hit the nail on the head, i am not concerned with giving players extra points because i think the difference between 1st and 10th is 570pts so that already rewards you for your first place finish.
What the LPL is trying to achieve is a balance of bonus points for coming through a larger field as opposed to a smaller field.
Hence the poll at the top of the page which i feel rewards the player who comes through a large field.

as a side note to all of this it might be worth considering when a game starts with less than 16 players that people start signing out in 16th place.

For example, if a game starts with only 10 people, it shouldn't be fair that the person who wins that game gets 600+ points. I would suggest the 10th place person signs out in 16th place, the 9th place signs out in 15th etc

to be fair thats not a good idea at the end of the day its not the players fault that theres not enough people playing this really comes down to mike growing his business maybe get some flyers out in the area like he was going to do in weston or possibly advertise it a bit more in local papers i know this all cost money but if he can turn around the poor attendance pubs it will pay him back tenfold in the future
