Table manners

This thread is a question for LPL_Mike to answer, but anyone is welcome to make comments if they wish.

I would like to know what action could be taken against any player who 'misbehaves' at the table.

The reason I ask this is because I was unfortunate enough to be on a table at which one player, in my opinion, behaved outrageously. The player, who I won't name (but will refer to as Player A), had previously commented to one other player (Player B) that Player B had repeatedly raised pre-flop when it was Player A's big blind. No real problem so far... But on the next hand when Player B raised pre-flop when it was Player A's small blind, Player A then told Player B not to raise. Player B did however raise, at which point Player A became verbally abusive towards Player B, who I must say was completely unphased by this attack and should be congratulated. Player A then turned around to her partner who was playing on the next table and told him that Player B was playing like a f***ing w**ker (exact words) and then turned back to the table and threw her small blind chips at Player B, knocking some of Player B's chips off the table. Player B then went on to win the hand with Ace-Ten suited (certainly worth a pre-flop raise in my opinion). I have played against Player B many times and he consistently does well. We have all been in a position where we lose our big blinds after someone raises and it can be disheartening, but Player A's behaviour was unforgiveable. What action would you have taken (if any) against Player A if you were pit-boss and Player B had made a complaint at the time?

if i wasn't knocking on 30 and trying to be sensible, I would say he would maybe deserves a fat lip at least lol.

Gaelic speakers have a great phrase which roughly translated is:

Let me make one thing very clear playful banter at the table is ok in my books but if you cross the line to verbal abuse where a player will take exception to, then the first course of action is to stop the game and call the pit boss over.
The player will be warned over his/her actions and asked to calm down, if this is repeated the pit boss can ask the player to leave the table, and if the player refuses to go the landlord will be brought in and asked to remove the player.

If the player does not want to take action on the night, he/she may write to me making a formal complaint with the name of the person and the actions that took place, i will make an enquiry into the events of the evening and ask the other player for their side, if i find that the player was abusive i will warn them of there conduct and ask them to refrain from such actions in the future.

I personally love banter at the table and think its a right royal laugh!! I think if anyone has seen me play they know.

However there is no need for personal insults like that. My take on it. If you are getting that then just report it! Get them taken out of the game

This has actually reminded me of some banter going on at a table the other night. I have started playing at my local Gala and after a night out i turned up at the card room. I sat down at a cash game and had been playing for about an hour or so and was quiet most of the time but this one player had been talking all night! (quite a funny guy actually). Anyway three players see the flop me, this guy and player C. I hit trips and put in a £20 bet, he then started saying how he thinks i have nothing etc etc to which i replied "well call then and see what i have".

The dealer then told us both to stop it as there was someone else still in the hand? Surely we did no wrong with a bit of banter? As long as we were not shouting out our hands or anything stupid i can't see why we got a talking too?

I agree with most of you. A bit of table banter is part of the psychological aspect of poker. In my opinion, it does no harm as long as it is not offensive or directly aggressive to anyone. "Player A", whom I started this thread about, is generally rather quiet, but on a number of occassions, she has suddenly lost her temper and hurled abuse at others. This oversteps the boundaries of fair play.

Although, I won't name and shame this player, there is one other female player who regularly makes comments about being raised when she has posted big or small blinds. Many of you will know who I am referring to. I would like to stress that although this player does frequently make comments about it, everyone knows that she is not at all serious, and has only ever behaved in an admirable way whilst at the poker table. So please don't assume that this is "Player A". I wouldn't want the wrong player being incorrectly labelled as such.

someone should say to this Player A - "If you can't hold a pint, don't go to the pub".. she sounds like a spoiled brat. Does she throw her rattle out of the pram when you go all in?
