Mike
I just wanted to let you know that the new blind/chip structure worked really well at the Assembly last night (well I thought it did anyway) and unless everyones now going to post that they "hated it" on this thread, I think we should keep it going.
The 20, 15, 10 minute levels worked well. As I predicted, there wre a lot of "wtf" when I said the blinds were going from 400 - 800 to 800 - 1600, but after we'd calmed them down and sat some people back on their chairs...lol everyone was fine.
I did semi chip ups as we went along becuase some peope amassed seriously large stacks of red and green chips, but it all worked out fine in my opinion.
Anyone else want to comment on what they thought of the new chip/blind structure last night?
I played this blind structure myself last night in Dursley and thought it was a vast improvement over the old structure.Originally Posted by Alex_B

I think: 300/600 > 400/800 > 600/1200 > 800/1600 > 1000/2000. That's just one more level, but makes a lot more sense. In exchange for this level get rid of one of the earlier ones, e.g. is there a 250/500 level?
Mango: Anyone watching Graeme Norton? They've got that actress who was in that accident recently! Reece...
s4ooter: Witherspoon?
Mango: No, with a car.

In general I liked the blinds, but as I came 2nd i'm bound to say that!
Positives
- People didn't limp in and hit with rubbish hands as much early.
- No white chips...yes!!
- I felt there was the opportunity for much better play on the final table.
Negatives
- In the first hour the blinds get pretty high - blinds at 100/200 after 20 mins means you need to hit some good hands early to not be very short stacked by 8.30. And i agree with the previous poster that once the blinds went up to 800/1600 it turned into a bit of all in frenzy.
I enjoyed the fact that I could have a good heads up on the final table with no white chips and without being chipped up so I would have had to go all in every hand. Although admittedly the heads up could well have gone on for too long as it did last almost half an hour as it was.
It worked well with Alex chipping up the reds and some of the greens as we went on and it was a much smoother transition overall.
What do other people think?

With the Blinds its all about balance, and trying to get the players in the middle part of the game to be able to play alot more, BUT and this is the important bit to get the game to finish on time! However, I didn't like the 400/800 to 800/1600 jump, especially as the next level is 1000/2000 (a jump of 800, followed by a jump of 400 - doesn't make sense to me).
Previous Blinds (middle of game):
200-400
500-1000
1000-2000
2000-4000
chip up Purples
5000-10000
New structure:
200-400
300-600
400-800
800-1600 (possible 600/1200)
Chip up
1000-2000
1500-3000
3000-6000
5000-10000
Matt is correct in saying the level does jump at that point, so we could give people an extra 20minutes by replacing 800-1600 to 600/1200 but after chip up going to 1000/2000..it still a jump but not quite as severe![]()
Thanks Bobby and Matt, for the constructive comments....Very helpful. I'm a little annoyed that no one else can be bothered to reply... but heh!
Matt
I know what you mean, it is a hell of a jump, so I am proposing the following:
Mike
I'm thinking I might take out the 150-300 and add in a 600-1200, like this.
50-100
100-200
200-400 1 hour
400-800
600-1200
800-1600
1000-2000 2 hours 20
etc, etc.......
What do you think? That way there won't be the big jump in the middle of the game.
Cheers,
Alex
Mike, you beat me to it!!! I took too long to press Submit..... lol
I still think we could get rid of 300-600, it would make it more even.
Alex the only concern i would have with that is the blind level of 200/400 at the 60 minutes mark, and thats only 1/3 of the game played which could pressure a lot of players to make very early moves.Mike

The Jump from 200-400 to 400/800 still early in the game might get a few complaints?Originally Posted by Alex_B
That's cool mike; its obviously up to you. I'm just conscious of the fact that there were a lot of people unhappy with the move from 400-800 to 800-160. We can't add an extra round in due to lack of time, so one of the other rounds would have to be taken out and the 300-600 looked the obvious one.
If not, then we'll just leave it as it is, people will soon get used to the structure and it will just become noemal to them.
By the way, its actually only 1/4 of the game played, as it usually goes on until almost 11.30pm.
I'm happy to keep it as it is though.....
I suppose what it comes down to is that you're never going to be able to please everyone. Some people couldn't care less what the blinds are and others will whine and moan about the blinds whatever they are.
So thinking about it, perhaps we'll stick to the structure we used on Tuesday and leave it at that.
