Right then guys i think it is order that we need to firstly brainstorm a few ideas and find out whom wants the job of PM numbero uno!

Maybe an idea is to print of the challenge and get some ideas individually to bring to this forum. The look at dividing the tea into roles and gettin the winning ways on a roll!!!!

Agree with S4 (shortened for ease, no offense), we need PM volunteers and a brainstorm. I have some ideas already but will give them more thought and have them ready for a proper discussion when everyone else has read the challenge etc.

I think the key thing here is to make sure that we take this seriously and all commit to pulling our weight. Sir Gus has put Poker.co.uk's reputation in our hands and a good budget to work with. Personally I think we have the strongest team by far because we seem to have a diversity of talent that should work really well together, we have specialists in useful area's who will contribute massively to our success!

I will put my money where my mouth is and put myself up as a possible PM.

The €300 Challenge

This challenge will run for the whole of the month of May (most future challenges will be over much shorter periods) and is all about using your resources to create the most popular type of online poker games.

I will provide €300 for each team to use as a prize pool for a multi table tournament or series of MTTs. I will allow a minimum of 1 tournament and a maximum of 10. You do not have to spend the whole €300 if you do not wish to.

You can either choose to set up value added tournaments, freerolls, FPP tournaments, etc, etc. MTT tournaments can be played in any game type (holdem,omaha,draw) etc, or you could choose to set up a Heads Up tournament. The choice is yours! Each tourney can be completely different in style.

There are further ways to restrict tourney entry: new players only, password based, etc.

As for the marketing of your tournament(s), the sky's the limit. Be creative!

I will allow each team access to a random 50% of the Poker.co.uk mailing list if you wish to create a mailer to send out.


Points for this challenge will be scored in the following format:

+1 point every unique player taking part in the games.

+2 points every new player signed up who doesn't deposit.

+10 points for every new player who signs up and deposits.

-2 points for every € of loss incurred. e.g. (outlay minus rake revenue).

-100 points for any cheat accounts set up (e.g. accounts set up by team members).

-500 points for every complaint of 'spam' recieved due to inappropriate marketing techniques.


Winning

The winning team will be the team with the most points at the end of the contest (31st May).

The Project Manager of the losing team will have to nominate 2 members of his team to be called to the boardroom. Where one of you will be fired!

I think one idea could be to have something similar to the promotion Boss did a few months ago where people got points for where they came in tournaments and points put them on a leaderboard for extra cash. IIRC I was so excited by it I deposited and then donked off like E150 in a few days. Maybe something like 5 freerolls with 30E of prizes each and then split the remaining E150 on a leaderboard. Or should we try not to use all our euros since we'll be -300 down by the end?

It might be an idea to do absolutely fuck all and hope that the other team uses their euros and ends up in the negative? Probably a bad idea to do nothing, but my point is that using all 300E could easily put you in the negative here.

OK new idea. It seems that the big points are in getting new players to sign up and deposit, so perhaps organise new depositers VAT games? The thing is one of our resources is 50% of the current users, so if we focus on new depositers, how do we use that resource? How many people on that database are there going to be who haven't already deposited?

PS I am happy with not being the PM this time but would do it if elected. (This is just my defence in case the accusation "You shunned responsibility!" comes up.)

Could we do something like this
Run the leaderboard over 10 freeroll games which have no prize pool they are merely games to score points in. These freerolls are password protected and to obtain the freeroll password you must make a deposit using a promotional code?

The password will work for all the 10 freeroll games and becuase they will be using a promo code while making a deposit we can track who is legit etc to stop password sharing.

We wont have to use up prize money then on the point games

I like the above, but it does seem a bit weird to play a tournament with only points at stake (even if they do eventually translate as cash). Is there a chance here we could kill two birds with one stone? We could make these tournaments 50c+10 buyin or something, and then it's possible we get new deposits as well. Think about it. If we reserve the 300E for the league payout, then players will see that it only costs like 6E to play the 10 games and first place could be 100E. It'd sound good even if we only used 150E or less as the prize pool. I think we'd still get plenty of players playing the 50c games cos there's loads of players who basically only play the freerolls on there and they probably only have about 50c anyway and need something to spend it on.

If we are targeting new depositers how are we going to market it? I guess we could use this forum and a few other forums (although will it count as spam?) Should we use the 50% of the current players just to spread the awareness (i.e. they might recommend it to their friends), or do we just look like idiots doing that?

My main spot was that we lose points per euro we spend (minus the rake we take) so to be honest think it would be suicide not to charge something to enter.
As mentioned previous the 300e doesnt have to be all used, think we need to look at lower staked boss tournies and see how many runners they get and maybe get someone to track that for a few days just to get an idea on runners we are lookin at - then we have a better understanding of the traffic available at these micro stakes which SHOULD give us an idea of what to charge, and how to keep losses at a minimum. We can then find a rake that will help us make as much back as possible.

eg - 2.20e tourny with the 0.20 as rake gettin 50runners will get us 5e back, not sayin we will get those numbers but thats 5e losses recouped immediatley

The above post regarding surfing the forums etc is a great idea, think the TM needs to get guys onto that straight away - Tank +2 for TM

As for the set up of the tournaments themselves - lets be honest we need a tounry to advertise - i was thinking of two options
1) NHL - popular, easy, large volume of traffic or
2)Mix - to cover wider variety of traffic - helping to earn those juicy 10pts per deposit!!

Think honestly though ideas are great but we really need to get a rigid plan into order

Firstly get a team leader - atm Tank has 2+
Secondly - get URL done, so people can join asap

then decide on how to set up series etc - we have a whole month but wanna use it effectively.

Oh one more ramble - should deffo have the tournies scheduled so that people can easily remember when they are

I like what I have read so far. The idea of a series of tourneys and a league table seems like a good one.

Here are a few points regarding various factors: -

The biggest points awarded seem to be with getting people to deposit, +10. So I think a small buyin for the various tourneys is a very good idea. We would just be looking for minimum deposits here.

I don’t think we can say we won’t be affected by the -100 or -500 issues. A big issue could be with -2 for every € lost. If we throw €300 into the mix we effectively start on -600 in points. Whereas if we use say €150 we'd be at -300 initially.

My point is we are aiming at the very low stakes players. So how much of a difference will a €300 prize pool make to a €150 prize pool? Also we are having buyins for the tourneys, which will generate a prizepool for the individual tourneys.

The winning team is the team with the most points at the end, not the most sign ups or the most anything else. It doesn’t even say we get + points for profit.


My thoughts are: -

Take €150 of the €300. This would start us off at -300. This allows us to minimise our starting deficit.

Use a series of 5 MTT with a small buyin. Add €10 to the prizepool of each tourney (add, not guarantee).

Adding €10 to the prize pool will be a great selling point, especially at the stakes we are aiming for. The small buying encourages a deposit. This leaves us with a €100 leaderboard prizepool.

I’m +1 for Dan to be PM.

As mentioned above we need to finalize the PM and a URL. Maybe if we brainstorm a new for the promotion, the name should be the URL?

i think the name should definatly be something catchy and easy - maybe use the month of may in title eg:
may-hem series

or target a specific area, ask yourself when u first started why did u play in certain tournys with value?? to bankroll build like tyler?! if so then maybe the bankroll builder series could be a good name??

i think our biggest win will be from advertising, and with all advertisting you have to revert to the 1 in 10 rule

if u ask 10 people, 1 will buy
if u ask 6 people, then miss a few, it may take another 10 before u see any results.

the point im tryin to make is that we need to be seen and heard by as many people as possible - no harm in asking

Back to advertising, are there focus groups we could look to!? Maybe university students??i have contact with the guy that runs the universitypokercup, just one more avenue to look at
